Hey there, sleepyheads! Ever find yourself tossing and turning all night, doing your best impression of a human rotisserie chicken? So, picture this: it's 2 AM, and you're playing musical beds, trying to find that elusive sweet spot that'll sway you away to dreamland. Spoiler alert: that’s nowhere to be found. But fear not, my fellow nocturnals , we're about to tackle this restless sleep dilemma head-on.

Welcome To The World Of Adulthood

Bedtime Dilemma : A Love-Hate Relationship

Let's be real, we've all got that one friend who loves to brag about how they can pull all-nighters and still wake up feeling like a champ. But for the rest of us, mere mortals in our 20s and 30s, getting a good night's sleep can feel like an uphill battle. Back then, we were once filled with excitement and anticipation as kids, waiting to grow up and take over the world but little did we know, the struggle to even get a goodnight’s sleep would be all too real.

“Dream is not that which you see while sleeping it is something that does not let you sleep.”

The quarter-life crisis hits us hard, my friend. It's almost as if we're living out a twisted version of the famous quote by Abdul Kalam. Instead of dreams keeping us up all night, it's the mere act of getting a good night's sleep that seems like an elusive dream for us.

We've all been there, doom scrolling through social media or binge-watching our favourite show until the wee hours of the morning, only to wake up feeling like we've been hit by a truck. So why is it so damn hard for us to hit the hay on time? We've seen all the memes and read all the articles about the elusive ‘sleep routine’, but the struggle is real. The truth is, as we navigate through our quarter-life crisis, trying to make sense of our place in the world, our sleep patterns can often take a hit.

Night Time Anxiety Has Become The New Bff Of The Quarter-Life Crisis

Do you often find yourself lying in bed at night, unable to quiet your racing thoughts? Do worries about the future and uncertainties of life keep you up late into the night? It's completely normal to feel overwhelmed and uncertain about your future, especially in today's world. So let's work together to find some solutions and get some sleep, shall we?

Let's face it, navigating through a quarter-life crisis is all about trying to ‘figure out life’, and to top it up, for many of us it’s a cat and mouse game with sleep every night. It’s inevitable that we're bombarded with constant pressure from society, our peers, and social media to have it all figured out. The quarter-life crisis is no joke, it makes us feel like we're falling behind when scrolling through Instagram and seeing all our friends living their best lives and we start questioning our own success and why we're not doing as well as everyone else.

CULTIVATING A HEALTHY SLEEP ROUTINE

Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither can you figure out your life nor can you build a sleep routine in one night. So, yes it’s going to take some time and commitment to get there.

Let me bust one preconceived idea for you: Not everyone has it all together. The friend you see who is travelling every weekend has his own struggles. The other friend doing her Masters abroad has a constant financial pressure going on. Anxiety treats everyone the same, maybe your friends are struggling with their sleep routine.

This perspective shift helps create a relaxed state of mind, enabling you to overcome unsettling thoughts and fall asleep.

If all these affirmations didn’t help yet, let me bring you some killer sleep time tips from Anyo’s team of psychologists.

A healthy sleep routine is beyond 8 hours of sleep. What matters more are the sustainable habits that ensure the ‘quality of your sleep’. We’re all well aware of the technique of putting our phones and gadgets away before bedtime. Apart from that, here are 3 tips for you to practise, for a good night’s sleep.

  • A sleep routine involves establishing consistent habits before bedtime that signal to your body and mind that it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep. This can include activities such as reading, stretching, or taking a warm bath.

Your bedtime routine doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming either. Find simple activities you enjoy that could help calm your mind. Stick to them every night before bed.

  • The 555 breathing technique coupled with muscle relaxation. Inhale for 5 seconds, hold your breath for 5 seconds and exhale for 5 seconds, tense your muscles as you inhale and release the muscles as you exhale.

This combination can help release stress and restlessness from the body, promoting relaxation and better sleep.

  • The 4-7-8 breathing rule. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds.

Try this and experience the magic of the 4-7-8 breathing hack that works its wonders in lulling you into a deep slumber.

By creating a regular nighttime routine, you can train your brain to associate these activities with relaxation and start winding down earlier in the evening. We’ve spent 12+ years in school following a strict routine day in and day out, and we stuck to it consistently throughout. So here's the deal, if you want to make something a part of your daily routine, it has to become a habit.

Alright, my fellow night owls, we've reached the end of our restless sleep adventure. Pat yourself on the back for sticking with it! A good night’s sleep helps to regulate the circadian rhythm, the biological process that controls our internal clocks, leading to improved productivity during waking hours. With Anyo’s support, you can build routines to make your nights restful and peaceful. Now, armed with newfound knowledge, let's wrap this up like a cozy blanket around a burrito.
